Australia repeats the saga of winning matches and has broke the record of not getting into Champions trophy finals after beating New Zealand by 34 runs. Since the beginning, it was looking that this match will be an exciting one. Australia was losing wickets at regular intervals. But despite of those wicket falls, Australia ended at a respectable score of 240/9. It seemed to be a gettable target for New Zealand but coming to bat, they started losing wickets more frequent than the Aussies, and at a stage New Zealand were 36/5. Only Stephen Fleming was the only one to touch double figure at that stage.
Then Vettori and Jacob Oram came to bat and started scoring runs and completed their 50 run partnership but this time, luck was with Aussies. Australian bowlers struck once again and Oram got out at the score of 43. After that Kiwis collapsed at the score of 206. Well, thumbs up to Kiwis, at least much better than the efforts put by Indian team.
Here’s a summary of the match:
Toss: New Zealand won the toss and elected to field.
Australia: 240/9
New Zealand: 206/10 (46.0)
Australia won by 34 runs
Man of the Match: Glenn McGrath
