Ragging transformed into intro In Delhi University

Posted by Kokolicious on July 23rd, 2008

I finished my work in the office just a few minutes prior to the closing time. What to do next as I was wondering? Suddenly I recalled that it was the first day in Delhi University for the freshers. So, I opened my favourite search engine and started scrolling through different websites on the net. I was quite happy that almost every website wrote about a better first day for the freshers in the horrible campus. WELCOME: Seniors and freshers at an introduction session at Kirori Mal College in Delhi on Monday. Photo: R.V. Moorthy

I went through the comments of the fresh students who praised their seniors for good treatment during the introduction sessions. Moreover, the kind of comments made by some of the students suggested that the term ragging should now be replaced by something like, welcome or introduction session.

The news also reported that the session was more a fun-packed than a horror for freshers as senior students took the introduction and then requested the fuchchas to sing or jive for fun and joy. The fun and joy substituted the humiliation and embarrassment of students getting into the first year batch.

Thanks to the correct and timely measures taken by Delhi Police and Administration to keep control on the ragging through CCTV cameras and plain clothed police men patrolling around the campus. Moreover, the student unions and various societies of the colleges also participated actively for the removal of the cruel menace of ragging from the Delhi University Campus.

However, there were some painful ragging events that took place at some colleges like Swami Shradhanand College where the seniors injured a fresher. Except for a few awkward incidents, it was a lovely experience this year and we hope that it will continue being same and even better for the years to come. Also, the culture of cruel ragging must be eliminated entirely not only from the Delhi University, but also from other Campuses around the world replacing even the term with a more suitable word like – Intro.
