Tahaan: Disputes Affect Child Psychology

Posted by Kokolicious on September 4th, 2008

Releasing on coming friday, Tahaan shows how children get affected by disputes and unrest in home and surroundings. Directed by Santosh Sivan, the movie is set in Kashmir and highlights the story of a boy Tahaan, who moves around the mountains in search of his donkey friend Birbal.

Actress Sarika plays the role of Tahaan’s mother in the film. She emphasizes that children’s minds and lives certainely get affected by conflicts. "It is a very simple script like Santosh Sivan’s earlier works Malli and Halo. It’s a very happy film but at the same time it is very scary because it is a reality that whatever conflicts happen in life it affects children. You only realise it later. We are also addressing an issue with the film", Sarika told a news daily.

When asked about her role in the movie, she said, "My role is that of a half-widow who is waiting for her husband to come back. She is sad, but she doesn’t show. She has a child who goes to school and he has a donkey. The story is actually about the little boy and his (donkey) friend Birbal."

So, the movie is a good representation of the fact that we need to be more responsible, in order to shape up a child’s personality and attitude. The current unrest in Kashmir valley in terms of terrorism and agitations is affecting the children of the valley. Tahaan is going to pass a strong message to self-centered people who are ruining the atmosphere of the societies all around the world. And, we ought to be hyper-sensitive while nurturing our children for their all-round growth.

Sarika also admits that she likes working with children and said, "I love working with kids. But the kids must be disciplined. In fact, I am playing the role of a mother in three films."
