Posted by Kokolicious on October 7th, 2008

Deepika Padukone made her cinematic debut with  Kannada film, Aishwarya starring opposite actor Upendra in 2006. Her charismatic beauty and acting skills compelled everyone to notice her in Om Shanti Om, her bollywood debut opposite Shahrukh Khan. In the movie she portrayed Shantipriya – a 1970s superstar, and later as Sandy, look-alike of Shantipriya. Her performance was well received, earning the actress a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award as well as her first Filmfare Best Actress nomination. Her second movie, Bachna Ae Haseeno also proved to be a hit.

Padukone was born to Ujjala and Prakash Padukone on January 5, 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her family moved to Bengaluru when she was only eleven months old. Her father Prakash Padukone is a badminton player of international repute, while her mother is a travel agent. Furthermore, Padukone has a younger sister, Anisha  who is an aspiring golfer.
Deepika has done her schooling from Sophia High School in Bengaluru. She completed her studies from Mount Carmel College. While in high school she played badminton at the state level like her father and was a member of her father’s badminton club. However, she wasn’t keen on pursuing a career as a badminton player and abandoned it because of her ICSE exams

She started modeling while she was in college and has worked for Liril soap, Dabur Lal powder,Close-Up toothpaste and Limca, receiving many prestigious modeling offers, including brand ambassadorship of the Jewels of India, an annual jewellery exhibition. She hit the international scene when Maybelline made her their new international covergirl face. At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, for Indian models and designers, she was awarded the title of Model of the Year. Shortly afterwards, she was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2006, thus cementing her reputation as a supermodel. She also bagged two trophies at the Idea Zee Fashion  Awards in 2006 – Female Model of the year (Commercial Assignments) and Fresh Face of the year. Padukone was also chosen as the brand ambassador of Kingfisher Airlines and most recently Levi Strauss and Tissot SA.

After link ups with Nihar Pandiya, Yuvraaj singh, she is currently dating Ranbir Kapoor.
