Nauman Sait : The Ultimate Roadie of 2009

Posted by Kokolicious on 27th April 2009

Nauman hails from Bengaluru and is 21 years in age. He was voted out in the initial episodes due to his close friendship with Tamanna, made a come back and emerged as winner.

In the part – 2 of finale Rannvijay told the top 3 roadies to climb the mountain and the one who do it first will decide who out of the other two roadies he/she wants to take along with him/her. Kiri climbed the mountain first where Raghu and Rajiv were waiting. They asked him to choose Nauman and win respect or choose Palak and win easily. He choose the former and axed Palak‘s rope. Both finalists were told that there is going to be one final task which will test their strength and decide the winner. The task  was to walk 20 steps with hands, legs and neck tied up with chains which were tied up with scales having all the weight behind, and then take off the Roadies flag. It was a difficult task but Inspite of getting hurt, Nauman made it. Nauman proved himself in the task and won MTV Roadies 6.0.

Nauman never abused or bahaved in a harsh manner like some other roadies on the show. He proved that a tough roadie can be elegant too. Nauman truly deserves to be the roadie.

Katrina – The Ad Queen

Posted by Kokolicious on 24th April 2009

Katrina Kaif has emerged the top female celebrity endorsing a number of brands in 2008, according to the latest TAM Adex study. Her rising clout is apparent because she is the only woman among the top five Indian celebrities with the maximum endorsements.

Shah Rukh Khan grabbed the top spot with 21 endorsements, followed by cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan and of course, Katrina.

Katrina has left behind her female colleagues like Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor, and marched way ahead. Ace ad director Pralhad Kakkar tries to explain why Katrina is so popular in the ad world. "She has an international face," he says. "She has long legs and looks attractive. She is a complete male fantasy." Katrina replaced Priyanka in the Spice Telecom ad and made headlines by replacing Ash in Nakshatra. She also grabbed the Pantene account by replacing Sushmita Sen.

"The only other Indian actress, who has such a global appeal is Ash," says Pralhad. "Kat has a very indefinite face. She is an ad maker’s delight. You can make her look European, Indian, American or even Brazilian. She is very flexible and adaptable. She has the perfect mix of innocence and sensuality. "Saleability is the most important factor," continues Pralhad. "Even Zeenat Aman was one such star who barely spoke Hindi. But she attracted the masses as people needed someone like her. She carried that kind of poise and dignity that Katrina has as well. I think Kat is a reincarnation for the Indian audience as she can be sophisticated as well as the gharelu types."

Katrina has as much as 12 brands like Slice Aamsutra, Nakshatra, Veet, Godrej Renew, Spice Telecom, Dyna Sandal Soap and Pantene, to name a few. Experts say Katrina‘s selective attitude has helped her gain a foothold in the ad world. Of course, her success rate in films is a huge factor too.

"I haven’t worked with her but I know she has a great sense of humour and is very smart. She stays aloof when she wants to and is very friendly when she wants to. I hope to work with her some time," Pralhad says.

Bollywood Actresses on Cover

Posted by Kokolicious on 23rd April 2009

There’s nothing like ‘too much beauty’. And when you’re running a glossy, this mantra works like a charm. Barely four months in 2009 and Bollywood’s ravishing ladies have already graced quite a few magazine covers to jaw-dropping effects. Presenting the cream of the lot.

Bipasha Basu, Filmfare

If it’s Bipasha, it’s got to be sizzling. Keeping the sexy tradition alive, the Bengali seductress poses to perfection for yet another smoking Filmfare cover. Some like it hot? Oh, you bet!

Priyanka Chopra, Grazia

After dressing up Akshay Kumar in a smashing black ‘n’ red sherwani in Singh is Kinng, maverick designer Rohit Bal creates quite a stir with this quirky red number on tinsel town’s current toast of fashion, Priyanka Chopra.

Kangana Ranaut, FHM

Kangana‘s weakness to play twisted characters on big screen has, more often than not, resulted in box-office success. That said, there’s nothing remotely dark about the sparkling glamour she exhibits as the cover girl of FHM.

Lara Dutta, Man’s World

Look who’s standing tall. And pretty. Rumoured to have broken ties with beau Dino Morea, Lara Dutta, with her chic new bob and spunky wardrobe, is all set to conquer the water-world (and beyond) with her new silver screen adventure, Blue.

Kareena Kapoor, Harper’s Bazaar

Besides getting everyone all curious about her swimsuit redux in the upcoming Kambakth Ishq, Kareena Kapoor is riding high on being the only actress to feature in a publication’s recently compiled list of Bollywood Top 10 powerful celebrities. But with that peaches ‘n’ cream charisma, how hard can it be?

Freida Pinto, Vogue

From Chanel to Dolce and Gabbana, every designer house worth its salt has dressed up Mumbai’s Freida Pinto to whistle-inducing results. Not to be left behind, fashion giant Louis Vuitton lends the Slumdog Millionaire actress a vintage makeover to look every bit of a Vogue diva.

Sonam Kapoor, Verve

It’s inconceivable to carry any feature on celebrity fashion without the mention of resident fashionista Sonam Kapoor. Here’s the star of two potential hits-turned-flops (Saawariya, Delhi-6) at her exotic best in a stylish white dress and edgy accessories.

Asin, Cosmopolitan

Her chatterbox number in Ghajini got her tremendous attention and (almost) all the Best Newcomer trophies. Currently making waves for her alleged closeness to London Dreams co-star Salman Khan, Asin is a picture of poise on the cover of Cosmopolitan.

Kajol, M

While others stars perceive photo shoots as an excuse to slip into all-expenses paid designer wear and accessories, Kajol makes a stunning impact with her million-dollar face alone. Easily one of the classiest covers seen on a magazine stand in a long time.

Deepika Padukone, Cine Blitz

Merging traditional with contemporary, Deepika Padukone makes a gorgeous statement for Cine Blitz. And, pray, what does it read? Grab your copy, NOW!

Aamir Khan’s Avatars

Posted by Kokolicious on 22nd April 2009

There’s no doubt that Aamir Khan is an excellent actor. So excellent in fact that he’s quite a favourite among advertisers. After all, he gives his all to the products he endorses. From a sherpa to a cranky old man to a heavily made-up housewife, Aamir has played most characters in his ads alone. And pretty convincingly too. We take a look back at Aamir‘s spectacular avatars. Feel free to tell us your favourites too.

Grumpy old Sardarji

Aamir plays a grumpy sardar in the latest and quite hilarious Tata Sky ad. The actor was totally unrecognisable in a salt and pepper beard and matching bushy eyebrows. Black-rimmed spectacles completed the look. Getting into the character, Aamir vents his frustrations against Tata Sky, not because it isn’t working, rather because it’s too efficient. He loudly goes on and on about how the perfect picture quality has got everyone hooked to it. His rant goes on until he gets rid of the offending set-up box by dumping it on a confused pedestrian.

The Coke ads

Aamir was on a roll when he did these witty Coke ads. Let’s break it down for you [clockwise from the top].
Aamir as a Tapori: Looking every inch the character he was playing, Aamir made the word Coca Cola synonomous with ‘Thanda’. Hence ‘Thanda matlab Coca Cola’.
A paan-chewing Hyderabadi soft drink vendor: Aamir looked the part with a purple shirt, paan-stained lips and kohled-lined eyes. Here he curses his luck after a girl (Rimi Sen) calls him bhaiyya after having a Coke.
As a Sherpa: Grinning like the village idiot, we almost didn’t recognise Aamir, dressed as a Nepali guide. His constant refrain to a sightseeing couple? ‘Thanda matlab Coca Cola’.
As a Bihari: Aamir put on a Safari suit, oiled his hair, and urged people to buy the drink, as it cost only Rs 5.
As a Jat: Here, Aamir was a rough and tough Jat sporting a stubble. He tells some girls looking to quench their thirst that Coke was so precious that people kept it hidden in wells.
As a Bengali: Aamir sported oily curls, a droopy mustache and spectacles — a perfect Bengali babu look. But what he was lecturing here was not literature or music but on Coke.

Half man-half woman in Tata Sky ad

This 70-second brilliant ad showcased Aamir Khan as Ardhnarishwar, the mythological half man-half woman creature. Aamir played both characters — a Punjabi bride and her husband — with aplomb though he let out that it was one of the most difficult tasks. It was almost eerie to see one side of his face heavily made up and the other in a mustache.

Hindi-speaking Japanese tourist in Coke ad

We didn’t club this with the other Coke ads because it was so good, it had to be a stand-alone. Aamir looked like the Japanese tourist he played. His message? Coca Cola quenches thirst everywhere.

Bus steward in Coke ad

Another gem from Aamir. This time he plays a sly bus steward, who tries to solve the mystery of an empty coke bottle in a bus loaded with people.

NRI and Manno Bhabhi in Coke ad

Like the Tata Sky ad, Aamir plays a double role of an NRI who comes to see a girl [he pretends to be the modern 'no tika-shika' kind], and Manno Bhabhi, his other avatar. Everthing goes smoothly as our NRI sticks to his modern stance by refusing everthing that is traditional. But he gives up all pretences when Manno Bhabhi refuses to give him a ‘thanda’ as he is a modern boy. Needless to say, our modern boy drops everything including his accent to acquire his beloved ‘thanda’!

Cricketer-Actress link-ups

Posted by Kokolicious on 22nd April 2009

It looks like Bollywood’s love affair with cricket is not limited to the ongoing Indian Premier League. Rather, the players seem to be besotted to tinseltown’s heroines — or is it the other way around? There have been quite a few link-ups between the two in the past. We take a look at some of the recent and most prominent ones:

Lakshmi Rai and Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Recently, there were reports of Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni dating south Indian actress Lakshmi Rai. According to the grapevine, the model-turned Tamil actress met Dhoni when he was leading the Chennai Super Kings in last year’s IPL matches, and the two have become an item. Of course, Rai denied the rumours.

Isha Sharvani and Zaheer Khan

The pretty Isha, who acted in films like U Me Aur Hum and Luck By Chance, was reportedly dating the 30-year old left arm pace bowler, Zaheer  for two years before calling it quits in 2007. Rumours of the two getting back together were doing the rounds when they were spotted at a gym. However, nothing came out of it as Isha is now reportedly seeing a London-based filmmaker.

Kim Sharma and Yuvraj Singh

Kim is famous for her role in Mohabbatein while Yuvraj is the dashing left-handed batsman, who can also bowl a mean spin. The two dated for four years before calling it quits. According to reports, the two split because Yuvraj‘s mother disapproved of Kim and her lifestyle. There were also rumours that the Kim was seeing Vivek Oberoi which then led to the split.

Deepika Padukone and Yuvraj Singh

Yuvi makes the list again — this time, with Deepika, who is now dating Ranbir Kapoor. What gave rise to the link-up rumours was that the two were seen together on a number of occasions during the India-Pakistan one-day series. Deepika also attended Yuvraj‘s birthday party right after the India-Pakistan Test match in Bangalore.

Karishma Kotak and Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj seems to be quite the ladies man. He has been spotted many times with London-based model Karishma Kotak, best known for her work as a Kingfisher calendar girl. If the rumours are true, we wonder how long will this hottie, who made her acting debut in Shankardada Zindabad, a Telugu remake of Lage Raho Munna Bhai, hold Yuvi‘s attention.

Shriya Saran and Sreesanth

We’ve heard that men love the chase but in this case, it was apparently the woman, who did all the chasing. Apparently, the south siren was so smitten by the cricketer at a fashion week party that she went out of her way to impress him. Shriya fussed over the cricketer and never left his side during the even

Sayali Bhagat and Shoaib Malik

Now this one is confusing. According to some, the 25-year old former Miss India Sayali fell in love with the Pakistani cricketer. The two then embarked on a long-distance relationship. But Shoaib has denied the romance, called the relationship a friendship. Then, there is the matter of a film that the two are supposed to be doing together by Wilson Louis. The film is a love story between a cricketer and a model. The two are said to be playing themselves in the movie.

Sameera Reddy and Ishant Sharma

Last year’s IPL matches wasn’t all about cricket. On the sidelines was the blossoming romance between Sameera Reddy and the right arm fast bowler Ishant Sharma. According to a national newspaper, the two met during some of the IPL matches and hit it off very well. Sameera, however, denied the news.

Geeta Basra and Harbhajan Singh

The actress, who made her debut opposite Emraan Hashmi in The Train, was apparently spotted entering the cricketer’s room in a Mumbai hotel, thus fuelling rumours that Geeta and Harbhajan were seeing each other. Like many others before her, Geeta dismissed the rumours as baseless.

Sanjana and Virat Kohli

She is a Kannada and Telugu actress while he’s the Bangalore Royal Challengers batsman. They have apparently been spotted together on many occasions. But the couple, who know each other for the past one year, say they’re just good friends.
