Why Adam Gilchrist retiring?

Posted by Srikanta Mahapatra on 27th January 2008

When I came to know about this decision of Adam Gilchrist, a question came into my mind. Why? So when I was thinking about this I saw many points which can be the reason of this why.

One of the reasons which anyone can believe is his game. It has been in slight decline and he may have feared that he might have to go out of the team. He has made some bad errors behind the stumps against India, and since the start of the 2005 Ashes, when he was quelled by Andrew Flintoff, his Test batting average lies just above 30. Then there was the lure of the IPL’s Twenty20, which is rapidly changing the face of world cricket. Last week the franchises of the eight teams were sold for $712m to add to a decade of TV coverage worth $1 billion.

agilchrist.jpg

Another reason which I think might be true is that Adam Gilchrist is an honest man. Many times it happened that in crucial matches umpires were not sure whether he is out or not, but if its out then he doesn’t even looks for the umpire’s decision and starts walking towards the pavilion. An honest person like him can never see anything wrong happening around him. Everyone is aware of what happen in Sydney test. I think Adam Gilchrist might have warned Ricky for not doing any thing wrong against Indian team. But when he saw that no one is in his favor and everyone is ready to play foul, he decided to go out of the team.

Is The Excess Australia-India Encounters Worth?

Posted by Virender Kumar on 24th January 2008

20060930011200802.jpgIt’s always a good sight when these two teams met head to head. But after this world cup 2007,

these teams are having 21 Tests and ODIs from June this year. Which is not good for anybody.

This all is going to make money it.

"It’s getting completely out of control," May, head of the international players’ association, told The Sun-Herald. "We’re very seriously worried that a few countries are playing too much cricket.

"It’s our ongoing battle with the ICC. Australia will play India 21 times in the eight months from June this year. From the perspective of players and spectators, it’s going to dampen your interest. And it detracts from the commercial value of the product. Vision has been lost about what’s important and what is not."

imag1.jpgUntil the Ashes series of 2005, an Australia-India series was widely considered one of cricket’s headline events in recent years. The sides clashed in three gripping Test series between 2000-01 and 2004-05, each winning one with the other drawn.

Australia are due to play seven ODIs in India in October, before a four-Test series in Australia the following summer and seven tri-series ODIs. To this list has recently been added a three-match ODI series in Ireland in June.

"They were already playing each other 18 times and now they’ve thrown in another three (in Ireland)," May said. "We’re concerned about that. Players have a passion for the game and want to maintain that passion every time they play. But it’s becoming harder to play every game as though it’s their last. 1609pathanout248.jpg

"No one wants a two-bit product where blokes are only giving 75 percent because that’s all they’ve got left. Or because they need to pace themselves for more games coming up." May, who has criticised the heavy workload on players in the past as well, also took a shot at the upcoming World Cup, arguing that it dragged on purely because of TV broadcasters.

For a cricket lover it’s sound a good new that two team having some so much matches, but it’s not good for the players and the teams. As they met so frequently the hype and anxiety will be lost and the charm of the encounter will be lost, which wouldn’t be a good sign for cricket.Hope the boards will leave their personal profits a side and make deals will helps cricket in growing not for making money.

Top Bowlers of the Cricket World Cups

Posted by Virender Kumar on 24th January 2008

wasim.jpg

Wasim Akram the undoubtedly the sultan of swing bowling, who stromed the whole cricket world with his
in-swinging yorkers, Currently holds the record for most no. of wickets in cricket world cup matches. He has took 55 wickets in 38 matches at an economy rate of just over four an over to head the top 10 bowlers in all Cricket World Cups.

Here is the list for Top 10 Bowlers :

Players For Wkts M Mdns Runs Ave Best 5wl ER

Wasim Akram Pak 55 38 16 1311 23.80 5-28 1 4.04
Glenn McGrath Aus 45 28 37 935 20.80 7-15 2 3.82
Javagal Srinath Ind 44 34 21 1224 27.80 4.30 0 4.32
Allan Donald SA 38 25 14 913 24.00 4-17 0 4.17
Chaminda Vaas SL 36 21 24 754 20.90 6-25 1 4.10
Imran Khan Pak 34 28 18 655 19.30 4-37 0 3.86
Chris Harris NZ 32 28 10 861 26.90 4-7 0 4.43
Shane Warne Aus 32 17 16 624 26.90 4-29 0 3.83
Muttiah Muralidaran SL 30 21 13 693 23.10 4-28 0 3.69
Ian Botham Eng 30 22 34 762 25.40 4-31 0 3.43

Although the pacers dominates the list and holds the top six positions , Spinners like Shane Warnelarge_book_1902.jpg, Muttiah Muralidaran and Anil Kumble keeps the spinners in the race. Warne who is not fond of limited over cricket, has always served his team in an attacking , wicket taking role, as might be expected of a classical leg-spinner, but by also maintaining an excellent economy rate.

At a time when a bowler’s economy ratio is said to be decent if its under five runs an over, Warne has an economy rate of 3.83, that speaks so much about his greatness.

Muralidaran, the off spinner with the finest record in Test cricket, also done very well in limited-overs cricket. In 21 matches, he has picked up 30 wickets and have an economy rate of only 3.69 runs an over – the lowest of any bowler save England’s Ian Botham. In 22 matches, Beefy got 30 wickets at an economy rate of 3.43 an over.

For our Indian team we have Anil Kumble who has served his team very well, had took 28 wickets in 17 world cup matches. He has provided break throught whenever needed. Now this time world cup is in West Indies, where pitches will very well suited for the spinner. Now we can see the some goo spin action, and hope that a spinner will to the list for most successfull bowler of  Cricket World Cup matches.

India’s chances for Cricket World Cup 2007!

Posted by Virender Kumar on 5th March 2007

sachin1.jpg

Once again the debate has began everywhere on the team that has the guts to win the Cricket World Cup 2007. Let’s talk about the chances of our Indian Cricket team. After the Australian slump, every cricket guru now says that Indian cricket team has most of the chances of winning this cricket world cup. Infact, former Sri Lankan Captain Arjuna Ranatuna has already put his money on the Indian team. He said that he has a feeling that Indian team has everything for winning this world cup.

_41952580_karthik_afp_416.jpgSounds great! Indian team always had the potential to win, but they always have choked at crucial times. For Example: At the last world cup final they were outplayed in every department. We can not claim it as a completely players’ fault, as they all have always played on slow and low bouncy tracks in India. When they go abroad, they always get bouncy and pacy tracks. If they get adjusted to the conditions, nobody can stop us.

storyharbhajanafp.jpg

In upcoming World Cup in Caribbean, the conditions are quite similar to Indian pitches. It’s a good sign for India team. This time Indian team has also got a good combination of youth and experienced players. They have got Sachin Tendulkar “The Master Blaster” who has experience of playing 4 Cricket World Cups with Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. He has experience of handling all kinds of pressure situations. We also have two finest finishers of the game as Yuvraj Singh and Mahender Singh Dhoni, who can blow away any bowling attack. In the bowling Department we have Ajit Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh and veteran leg-spinner Anil Kumble with the experience. And in the fielding department, we have some young talents as Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa and Yuvraj Singh.

saurav_ganguly150.jpg

In nutshell, it can be said that this is the most talented side for Indian cricket team in World Cup after 1983. Another thing that favours the Indian team is that some of the finest fast bowlers like Brett Lee, Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammed Asif are not playing in this World Cup due to injuries and other reasons. Who always have been trouble for the Indian side. Now Indian Batsmen can relax :P .

This world cup is the last world cup for many cricketers of Indian team. I am sure that they also want to make it a special one. I hope this time, Indian team will not disappoint a billion people.

Anil Kumble to Quit One Dayers

Posted by Virender Kumar on 1st March 2007

Anil Kumble
Anil Kumble is one of the most successful bowlers for Indian Cricket team. He has taken 334 wickets in 270 One Day Internationals and 547 wickets in 113 tests. Needless to say that this 36-year-old Indian Cricketer is also the fourth highest Test wicket-taker across the globe. He is the second bowler in the cricket history who has taken all the 10 wickets in an inning of an International test match. Therefore, several times he has been the sole warrior to win matches for Indian team. He is a fighter, who always gives his 100% in the field whether it’s with bat or ball.

In an interview with a TV channel, he says “It is definitely going to be my last World Cup, probably the last one-day international series for me”. This interview makes it clear that Anil Kumble is going to quit One dayers after this world cup. He has taken 28 wickets in 17 world cup matches. In the Last Cricket World Cup, he played only the final match and Indian team lost that match to Australia. After that he was out from the Indian Cricket team and after a gap of four years he is back in action for the Cricket World Cup 2007. As always, he is once again ready to serve his country with his valuable services.

He looks very confident after taking 23 wickets last year which brought India, their first ever Test Series Win in West Indies in the last 35 years. India lost the next One Day Series by 4-1 to West Indies at the Caribbean. According to him, Indian team will do much better this time. He thinks that Indian team has a good chance to win the Cricket World Cup 2007. He said, “We have a good combination of youth and experience”. He is an inspiration for the young cricketers. He also has a bigger role to play in this world cup for the Indian Cricket team. The reason behind quitting One Dayers is that he wants to concentrate on the longer version of game. Nobody can fill his place in the One Day squad. We hope that he will always be a part of Indian Cricket team.
